Fabulous French necklace by Countess Cissy Zoltowska (Cis), circa 1960. Cissy Zoltowska made couture jewelry for Balenciaga and others in Paris. In the United States her jewelry was also sold through Lord & Taylor and Bonwit Teller. Unsigned but it has many of her characteristic design and construction elements, including the chain and hook closure, the dark finished metal, the marbled glass cabochons which I have seen on other confirmed Cis pieces, the brilliant rhinestones, and the very sophisticated contrasting color scheme. With large slightly marbled opaline lavender stones, slightly marbled slightly translucent coffee color stones, and purple rhinestones, all prong set in dark gunmetal finished brasstone metal. The large lavender stones are openbacked and unfoiled. With a matching purple glass bead at the end of the extender chain. Although it is unusual to see a bead as the terminal on a rhinestone necklace extender, I believe it is original; the color and the wiring match the rest of the necklace, and the necklace came from a Philadelphia area estate (along with the French faux pearl necklace I am listing). 16 1/2 inches wearable length and 1 inch wide. Excellent condition. Display form is life size. Photos enlarged to show detail.
